Phil Townsend
Deputy CIO - OpenReach
Currently Director of Systems and Deputy CIO for OpenReach a BT Group Business. Phil is responsible for the change agenda to meet the demands of the OR business which in turn underpins the UK telecoms business. He is responsible for Development through to Release implementation, from Supplier management to quality improvements. Previously appointed COO to the BT Technology Directorate and responsible for the innovations programme that built and released the highly successful SDKs. He has gained an excellent reputation for highly successful business system implementation, and has delivered many changes transforming the core businesses. Phil started his working life in Education, teaching Mathematics for six years during which he instigated Information technology within the school and college curriculum. A career change to industry meant re-qualifying in Information System design before joining EDS. Phil joined the BT group 20 years and has held posts in all the major IT disciplines. Phil lives in St Albans, just north of London with his wife, Sue and two sons. Any leisure time is dominated by the interests of the boys or battling with golf.
