Robert Nowill Dr Robert (Bob) Nowill
Director of Information and Network Security, BT

As the Director of Information and Network Security at BT One IT, Bob is responsible for the Security, Risk and Compliance function (SRACF) and for optimising end-to-end information security processes and governance. Bob also leads the One IT Security Professional Community. Before joining BT in 2005, from 2000 Bob was the Director of Technology & Engineering, Head of Procurement and Board Member at the Government Communications Headquarters in Cheltenham (GCHQ). He is experienced in engaging at Board and senior levels to enable delivery within the commercial IT and other technology sectors in the UK and US, and in the public sector in the Defence, Security and Intelligence Agencies, other Government Departments, and more widely. Bob has an engineering, IT and technical specialist background and has led technical project and programme management, design, support, applied research, architecture and commercial procurement teams. He is a Fellow of the IET and the BCS.

His career has also included periods with MoD(PE) (now Defence Procurement Agency and Research Agencies), abroad in The Netherlands with The SHAPE Technical Centre, and research at Cambridge University Engineering Department and British Telecom. Bob is married to Joanna, a Psychologist, with three children at university: this, plus renovation of a crumbling Victorian house and a rescue-Greyhound, takes up the time usually reserved for hobbies.
